On lui doit des essais brillants comme <em>Albert Capellani\u00a0\u2013\u00a0Cin\u00e9aste du romanesque<\/em> paru en 2013 et <em>Continental Films\u00a0\u2013\u00a0Cin\u00e9ma fran\u00e7ais sous contr\u00f4le<\/em> <em>allemand<\/em> sorti en 2017.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>En 2015, elle avait publi\u00e9 une biographie magistrale bas\u00e9e sur des archives fran\u00e7aises et am\u00e9ricaines, <strong><em>Maurice Tourneur&nbsp;\u2013&nbsp;R\u00e9alisateur sans fronti\u00e8res<\/em><\/strong>,que les \u00c9ditions Actes Sud ressortent aujourd\u2019hui pour comm\u00e9morer les 150&nbsp;ans de la naissance du cin\u00e9aste.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Le r\u00e9alisateur fran\u00e7ais Maurice F\u00e9lix Thomas dit Maurice Tourneur, n\u00e9 le 2&nbsp;f\u00e9vrier 1876 \u00e0 Paris et mort le 4&nbsp;ao\u00fbt 1961 dans la m\u00eame ville \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e2ge de 85&nbsp;ans, a occup\u00e9 une place majeure dans l\u2019histoire du cin\u00e9ma des deux c\u00f4t\u00e9s de l\u2019Atlantique.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Il commen\u00e7a sa vie professionnelle comme graphiste et illustrateur de magazines, puis s\u2019engagea dans une unit\u00e9 d\u2019artillerie en Afrique du Nord avant de devenir, \u00e0 son retour, assistant du sculpteur Auguste Rodin (1840-1917), puis du peintre Pierre Puvis de Chavannes (1824-1898).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Attir\u00e9 par le th\u00e9\u00e2tre, il devint acteur, croisa la route de la trag\u00e9dienne R\u00e9jane (1856-1920) qu\u2019il suivit dans sa tourn\u00e9e en Am\u00e9rique du Sud.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jusqu\u2019en 1911, il mit en sc\u00e8ne pr\u00e8s de 400&nbsp;pi\u00e8ces de th\u00e9\u00e2tre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A partir de 1912, Maurice Tourneur s\u2019est int\u00e9ress\u00e9 au cin\u00e9ma, devenant l\u2019assistant de son ami \u00c9mile Chautard (1854-1934), puis passant \u00e0 la r\u00e9alisation. Pour la Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 Fran\u00e7aise des Films et Cin\u00e9matographes <em>\u00c9clair<\/em>, il tourna <em>Le Myst\u00e8re de la chambre jaune <\/em>(1913), <em>Les Ga\u00eet\u00e9s de l\u2019escadron<\/em> (1913), <em>Monsieur Lecoq<\/em> (1914) et <em>Le Parfum de la dame en noir<\/em> (1914).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Parlant couramment l\u2019anglais, il fut envoy\u00e9 en 1914 par <em>\u00c9clair<\/em> aux \u00c9tats-Unis et, en 1918, il y fonda sa propre maison de production.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Son talent pour la composition picturale, le montage et la direction d\u2019acteur firent de lui, en quelques ann\u00e9es, l\u2019\u00e9gal d\u2019un D.&nbsp;W.&nbsp;Griffith ou d\u2019un Cecil&nbsp;B.&nbsp;DeMille.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Il offrit des r\u00f4les \u00e0 des c\u00e9l\u00e9brit\u00e9s comme Mary Pickford, Paulette Duval, Robert Warwick, Olga Petrova, Walter Pidgeon ou Elsie Ferguson et il exer\u00e7a une grande influence sur le travail de Fritz Lang et de Josef Von Sternberg. \u00c0 cette \u00e9poque, la <em>World Pictures<\/em> le consid\u00e9ra comme le meilleur cin\u00e9aste du moment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Revenu en France \u00e0 l\u2019av\u00e8nement du parlant en 1927, il tourna jusqu\u2019en 1948, dirigeant les plus grands acteurs&nbsp;: Jean Gabin, Raimu, Maurice Chevalier, Fernandel, Harry Baur, Louis Jouvet, Pierre Fresnay, Danielle Darrieux, Gaby Morlay, Mich\u00e8le Morgan, Charles Vanel, Victor Francen, Pierre Larquey, Edwige Feuill\u00e8re, Madeleine Renaud, Jean-Pierre Aumont, Albert Pr\u00e9jean, Paul Meurisse, Simone Signoret, Simone Val\u00e8re, Dani\u00e8le Delorme&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Victime d\u2019un accident d\u2019auto en 1952, amput\u00e9 d\u2019une jambe, il se mit ensuite \u00e0 la traduction de 8&nbsp;romans policiers pour la <em>S\u00e9rie noire<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Il fait partie des tr\u00e8s rares artistes fran\u00e7ais \u00e0 avoir \u00e9t\u00e9 honor\u00e9s par une \u00e9toile au Hollywood <em>Walk
